Ivan Evans Dies Suddenly

Ivan R. Evans, 49, owner of the Fashion Cleaners in Webster City, died Sunday evening following a heart attack suffered at the cleaning shop.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. Roy Nelson officiating and with burial at Graceland cemetery where military services will be held.

Ivan Rex Evans, son of Lyle and Pearl Evans, was born Jan. 31, 1912, at Fontanelle, Iowa. He moved with his parents to Winterset, Iowa where he was reared and educated.

He later moved to Webster City where he was employed at the former Star Laundry.

He was united in marriage Jan. 19, 1942, to Lauretta Callery. He served in World War II in the African campaign and was prisoner of war in Germany for 24 months. Following his return from service, he and his wife moved to Winterset, living there until about three years ago when they returned to Webster City. Since then he had owned and operated Fashion Cleaners at 1448 Second St.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and one son, Laura, Lana Beth, and Charles Dean, all at home. Also surviving are his father, Lyle Evans, four brothers, Gordon Evans, Rock Island Ill., Ralph Evans, Burlington, Dean Evans and Paul Evans, both of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Mr. Evans was a member of the Church of Christ at Winterset. He was an active member of the American Legion post.
