Cowan, Sr., 74, 2418 Springfield Road, East Peoria, died at his home this morning at 1:30 a.m. after an illness of one year. He was born Oct 12, 1882, in Sturgis, Ky., a son of Bailey and Emma Gann Cowan. He was married to Ada Hayden, Jan 29, 1908 in Mayfield, Ky., and after his marriage moved to Delavan and East Peoria communities. Mr. Cowan was a carpenter and cabinet maker. He spent his early life and received his schooling in Kentucky. He was a member of the Carpenters Local 183, Peoria.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Charles A., East Peoria; five daughters, Mrs. Ada Conrady, Mason City; Mrs. Urith Wood, Peoria; Mrs. Nita Morris, Manito; Mrs. Charlene Burnham, Mason City; Mrs. Ruby Goeken, Delavan; one sister, Mrs. Jenny Dunlap of Paducah, Ky.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Buelah Clousey, St. Louis, Mo.; and Mrs. Lena Sowers, Sturgis, Ky.; 15 grandchilden and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services have been set for Monday at 2 p.m. at the Hallmann Funeral Home, Delavan. Rev. Lloyd Barnard, pastor of the Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens, Pekin. Friends may call at the Hallmann Funeral Home after 3 p.m. Sunday.
