Obituary 1946 (Albion IL newspaper). Jesse Ewing Passed Away Saturday Morning. Jesse Ewing, well known resident of Albion, passed away at his home at 397 North Fourth street last Saturday morning. Death followed a stroke suffered two weeks previous to his death. He was aged 51 years, 1 month and 25 days.
William Jesse Ewing, son of John and Lucy Ewing, was born in Wayne county, October 19, 1895. He was united in marriage to Amy Chappell on December 15, 1917. Deceased served in World War I from Feb 23, 1918 to Jan. 30, 1919 with an artillery unit and was honorably discharged with the rank of Private first Class. He was a member of Albion-Browns Post of the American Legion.
Early in life he was converted and united with the Baptist church and will be remembered as one who was devotedly interested in the welfare of the church. He served as trustee and was employed as sexton for some time until his health compelled him to give up the work. It was while in attendance at a service at the church that he suffered the stroke that caused his passing.
Surviving are the wife, one brother, Ralph of Albion, several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. E.R. Wall, the pastor, officiating. Interment was at Graceland.
