The Advertiser, Chapman, KS, 24 Mar 1938:

John A. Meek was born on September 5, 1854 in Greene County Indiana. He came with his parents to Topeka, Kansas in the autumn of 1869 and in the following spring continued westward to Dickinson County where the remainder of his life was spent. On March 9, 1882 he was united in marriage to Nannie E. Parks at Ellsworth, Kansas and the young couple began farming in the Upland community. To this union four children were born. Through more than fifty years the ties of earth were unbroken, until, in 1934 his life partner was called from life's earthly journey. From these days of parting, Mr. Meek's life was filled with a great loneliness and in the last few years with extreme suffering from bodily ailments. Mr. Meeks was connected with the insurance company at Upland from its early beginnings, as a director and appraiser; until age prevented his active service. He became widely known for his dealings as a representative of insurance. His life is an open book written on the pages of years in the presence of the many people with whom he dealt. Another weary traveler has come to the end of earth's journey on March 12, 1938 at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 7 days. He leaves to mourn his death the two sons and the two daughters: Clyde and Price Meek, and Mrs. S. Juon of Upland, and Mrs. Wm. Jones of Junction City; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as many friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the East Evangelical Church with the Rev. A. . Brueggerman in charge. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The family of the late John A. Meek wish to express their thanks fro the kindness and consideration during their recent bereavement, and for the beautiful floral offerings. We treasure the remembrance of your acts more than words can express.
