Herman Schmidt Dies in 3rd City -

Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon for a former Gage Valley farmer, Herman Schmidt, 78, of Grand Island. Mr. Schmidt died Monday morning following an automobile accident in Grand Island.

Mr. Schmidt was born March 5, 1896 near Stanton to August and Anna Bosselman Schmidt. He married Reminnie Michaelsen in Platte County in 1916. After farming in the Gage Valley area they moved to the Archer area; later moving to Grand Island. He was employed as a carpenter at Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and later with Jacobsen-Schmidt Construction until retirement in 1970. Summer months were spent as a guide to Stuhr Museum's machinery collection.

Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Jacobsen and Mrs. Ray Hessel, both of Grand Island; one sister, two brothers; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two sons and one brother.
