Arnold H. Schmidt Victim of Airplane Crash -

Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt of 250 South Vine St., Grand Island, received the sad message Thursday of last week that their son, Arnold, was killed that afternoon in a plane crash about six miles from Topeka, Kansas.

Arnold was president and an instructor in the Northwest Missouri School of Aeronautics at St. Joseph, Mo., an institution he had helped to organize after his discharge from the army where he served as a captain in the army air force.

The fatal crash occurred while he was delivering a plane to a buyer in Topeka.

A younger brother, Second Lieut. Robert L. Schmidt, was killed August 11, 1944, while on a mission over France as a bombardier and navigator on a B-24 bomber.

His parents, accompanied by a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jacobsen of Grand Island, left Thursday night for St. Joseph. Another sister, Mrs. Raymond Hessel (Margaret) lives at 322 East Tenth, Grand Island. He is survived also by his wife and daughter, Susan of St. Joseph.
