GRIGGS - At 7:30 o'clock, Wednesday evening, March 12, 1952, at his home 3831 Cleghorn ave., Cardwell William Griggs, in the 70th year of his age. Survived by wife, Mrs. Mattye Nelson Griggs; daughters, Mrs. Alice Coe of New York city, Mrs. R.M. Frye of St. Joseph, Mo., and Miss Marianne Griggs of Nashville, Tenn.; brother, Walter Griggs of Wetumka, Okla.; five grandchildren. His remains are at the funeral hime of M. S. Combs & C., at Centennial Park. Complete services announced later.
Cardwell W. Griggs Dies at His Home
Cardwell William Griggs, 69, of 3831 Cleghorn ave, died of a heart condition last night at his home.
The body is at Combs funeral home, 201 Twenty-fifth ave., N. Funeral arrangements were incomplete last night.
Mr. Griggs had been affiliated with the Nash-Simpson clothing company.
A retired army officer veteran of European duty in World War I, he had lived in Nashville for 28 years. He married the former Mrs. Mattye Nelson, of Pulaski, Tenn., in 1915.
He was a member of Westminister Presbyterian church, Shrine, Masons, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Alice Coe, New York city, Mrs. R. M. Frye, St. Joseph, Mo., and Miss Marianne Griggs, Nashville; a brother, Walter Griggs, Wetumka, Okla., and five grandchildren.

Cardwell W.Griggs Services Conducted
Funeral services for Cardwell William Griggs, 69, who died Wednesday night at his home, 3831 Cleghorn Ave., were held this afternoon at Combs Funeral Home.
The Rev. A. L. Currie officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Griggs, medically retired as a captain in the Army infantry as a result of a wound sustained in World War I, was manager of the Nashville branch office of Nash-Simpson Clothing Co., up to the time of his death. He had been ill of a heart condition for about two weeks.
A son of J. B. Griggs and the former Miss Mary Alice Keaton, he was born in Prospect, Giles County, and moved with his family to Texas when he was about 10 years old. He had also made his home in Yeager, Okla., where he farmed for a time, and in Atlanta, Ga., before moving to Nashville about 28 years ago. He was married to the former Miss Mattye Nelson of Pulaski in 1915.
He was a Mason, a Shriner and member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Westminister Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Alice Coe of New York, Mrs. R. M. Frye of St. Joseph, Mo., and Miss Marianne Griggs of Nashville; a brother, Walter Griggs of Wetumka, Okla., and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ray J. Clouse, Joe Hicks, Donald Phillips, Glendon Morrell Fisher, Gordon H. Smith, Edward Seaton, Jr., L. S. Ritter, W. N. Bateman and William Fletcher.
