Marianne Griggs Smith, 90, passed away March 4, 2019 at home. Survived by two daughters Carol Payne and Debbi Smith and son David Smith, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and the Atlanta Braves!! Visitation will be held Saturday March 9th at Woodlawn Funeral Home from 11 to 4.
Marianne (Maro) was born April 7, 1928 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee to Mattye Nelson and Cardwell William Griggs. She married James Richard Petty in June 1944 and on September 10, 1945 she welcomed Nancy Carol Petty into this world. A few years later they divorced and she married Gordon Hamilton Smith and on December 6, 1953 they welcomed their daughter Deborah Anne Smith into this world. Then on November 13, 1961 they welcomed a son, David Hamilton Smith into this world.
