"The DeRuyter Gleaner", Thurs. Nov. 25, 1937, DeRuyter, NY:

Orson C. Babbit 67, for nine years principal of Beaver Falls high school and a teacher for 36 years, died Saturday at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he underwent an operation.

He was born in Cuyler, son of Reuben and Emogene Field Babbit.

Following graduation from DeRuyter High School, he taught four years and in 1895 took a course at Oneonta Normal, supplemented with extension work at Cornell University. From the time he was graduated from Oneonta until his retirement seven years ago, Mr. Babbit served as principal of various schools at Galway, Hartwick, Oriskany, and Brown Station.

He served in Oriskany eight years. Going to Lewis county, Mr. Babbit served four years as superintendent of the second supervisory district during which he lived in Lowville and Copenhagen. In 1981, he hecame principal at Beaver Falls, retiring in June, 1930.

His wife, after teaching 15 years at Beaver Falls, retired last year.

Mr. Babbit was a member of the Beaver Falls Methodist Episcopal church, Lowville Lodge, I. O. O. F., Dunbar Fish and Game Club of Stillwater, Beaver River Fish and Game Club, Croghan, and the New York State School Principal's Association.

Thirty-six years ago he married Daisy L. Shaw.

He leaves Mrs. Babbit, three children: Mrs. [Dorothy]Harold G. Norta, Croghan, NY; Miss Sara B. Babbit, a teacher in Orange, N. J. schools, and Robert O. Babbit, Norwalk, Conn.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Clayton, Schoharie; and Channing, Randolph, Ariz.; and a sister, Mrs. Charles P. Monro, DeRuyter.
