OBITUARY FOR ELIZABETH (SELL) BARNHART - We are pained to announce the death of Mrs. Michael Barnhart, of Yoder Township, which sad event, occurred about 7 o'clock on Wednesday. Her illness was a long and painful one, but she bore her suffering with Christian resignation. Mrs. Barnhart was a daughter of Mr. John Sell, and was one of thirteen children, twelve of whom are still living. She was born in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, about the year 1813, and lived on the farm on which she died for twenty-seven years. She was a communicant in the Methodist Episcopal Church for thirty-five years, and was respected and loved by a large circle of acquaintances and friends. Her husband and seven children survive her and to them our heartfelt sympathy is extended in the affliction they have been called upon to bear.
[Transcriber's Note: Elizabeth and Michael had eight children per Michael's obituary. Seven are surviving in Elizabeth's obituary who died before Michael. Brian Ensley has added a photo of an eighth son because of a tombstone in the Barnhart plot - Charles E. Barnhart - and Michelle, who maintains the memorial - added vital statistics.] Thank you both.

Notes from Ella Hammer Krise, grand-daughter of Elizabeth Sell Barnhart:
CAUSE OF DEATH: Cancer
"Elizabeth Barnhart gave the ground for the Methodist Church. Samuel Menoher, father of General Menocher, owned the adjoining ground. He helped to build the church.
When Elizabeth Barnhart died in 1879, Michael Barnhart gave to each of the children 15 acres of ground, allowing them to buy more at $100 per acre. Isaac bought 15 acres, Lizzie Ann Hammer bought 5 acres, which is Plainfield. Henry Barnhart had the plot along the highway on the right side of Franklin Street, extending from Luna Park. Mary Barclay had part of the park on Franklin Street, which was the homestead. Elmira Myers on Derby St. Sarah Melander on the corner of Franklin and Derby. David on Franklin St. Isaac part of the park, extending up the hill adjoining the Berkley Farm.
