Mrs. Elmira B. Myers, aged 78, widow of the late Jacob Myers, died at her home,
40 Derby Street, Eighth Ward, at 10:35 P.M. yesterday after a lingering illness
with a complication of diseases due primarily to her age. The funeral will take
place at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, the services to be conducted by the
Rev. T.J. Barlett, pastor of the Derby-street United Evangelical Church, with
burial in Grandview Cemetery. Friends are requested to omit flowers.
The deceased was born in 1844, being a daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (Sell)
Barnhart. She was born in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, and was married
to Jacob Myers about 1863, the ceremony being performed by the late Justice
Peter Levy, then a prominent resident of the village of Davidsville. Her husband
was engaged in the dairy business here for many years. His death occurred in
Roxbury in 1888.
Her father died in Roxbury about 1886. Mrs. Barnhart passed away here during the
'70s.
Mrs. Myers was a consistent member of the Methodist Church and was well known
and esteemed. She is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Minnie
Hochstein, Mrs. Nathaniel Blough, John Myers, Benjamin F. Myers, Mrs. Mina
Searle and Webster Myers, all of Johnstown, and Mrs. Emma Blauch, of Buffallo,
N.Y. Mrs. Myers was a sister of Mrs. Joseph Hammer and Mrs. Sara Melander, both
of this city.
She is also a sister of Mrs. Robert Barclay and Henry, David and Isaac Barnhart,
all deceased.
Elmira married Jacob MEYERS in 1863. Jacob was born in 1835 in Scalp Level,
Somerset, Pennsylvania, USA, died on 3 Jun 1888 in Roxbury, Somerset,
Pennsylvania, USA at age 53, and was buried in Grandview Cemetery, Southmont,
Cambria, Pennsylvania, USA. The cause of his death was typhoid pneumonia.
