Hazel Lee Byrd Daugherty, 72, of Oneida, passed away suddenly early Sunday morning, September 2, 1990, at her home. She was the daughter of the late John Ramsey Byrd and the late Luecindy Richardson Byrd and was also preceded in death by her husband, George Daugherty; two sons: Cleve Daugherty and infant Charles Edward Daugherty; one sister, Opal Jane West; and one brother, Arvil Lee Byrd. She was a member of the West Oneida Baptist Church for several years. Mrs. Daugherty is survived by two granddaughters: Dale Waters of Dalton, Ga., and Aaron Stephens of Robbins; one grandson, Douglas Stephens of Robbins; one great-granddaughter, Krystal Dawn Waters of Dalton, Ga.; one great-grandson, Shannon Neal Waters of Dalton, Ga.; step-mother, Rhoda Byrd West and husband, A. D. of Black Creek; three brothers: Lonzo Byrd of Brightville, and Frank Byrd and Roger Byrd, both of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters: Lola Sexton of High Point, and Hattie Foster of Manhatton, Ill.; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Darren Sexton and wife, Lisa of Pine Hill; a special great-nephew, Joshua Sexton of Pine Hill; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, with Rev. Charlie Duncan officiating. The West Oneida Baptist Church Choir sang. Burial was in the Black Creek Cross Roads Cemetery. West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. (Source: The Scott County News, 6 Sep 1990, p10)
