Imelda Veronica Skoch, 92, of Seneca, formerly of Axtell, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.

She was born on February 16, 1923 to Frank A. and Anna Meyer Burdiek, on the family farm south of Seneca. She attended St. Bede's Grade School at Kelly.

On February 3, 1942, she married Robert Skoch at St. Bede's Church in Kelly, Kansas. After their marriage, they moved to Bell, California, near Los Angeles, during World War II, as Robert was employed by Lockheed an aircraft manufacturer. When the war ended in 1945, they moved back to Kansas where the couple farmed in the eastern part of Marshall County until 1962. The family then moved to Seneca where they owned and operated Skoch Café. In 1966, they moved to Axtell and in 2004, the couple retired and moved to Sabetha, and then to Seneca in 2009. The couple celebrated 68 years of marriage before Robert’s death on April 24, 2010.

Imelda was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell and the Altar’s Society. She enjoyed cooking for family, neighbors, friends and shut-ins. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her family and extended family; her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were of great joy to her. She was a talented quilter, making quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. She took pleasure in a good card game of Bridge and many other card games.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Annette & Ron Burton, Gary & Elsie Skoch, Marilynn & Jim Laessig, Lois & Dennis Kotas, Steve & Robin Burch Skoch, Ruth & David Storms, Jean & Bruce Braddy, and Jane & Darrel Meyer; sisters, Bernice Glover and Marjorie Steinlage; a brother Edgar Burdiek; and 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Norbert, Leonard, Regis, Francis and Wilbur; and by a granddaughter, Jennifer Kelly.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM Monday, March 9th, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 10th, also at St. Michael’s Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She will lie in state Monday morning at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca.
