Norbert H. Burdick, age 77, of Whiting, died Thursday, November 20, 1997 at the Colmery-O'Neal VA Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born June 6, 1920, at Frankfort, the son of Frank and Anna Meyer Burdick. Ne attended grade school at Kelly. Mr. Burdick was a farmer and a stockman. He had farmed near Seneca, then moved to the Powhattan area.
He married Mildred Banks on August 24, 1948, at Fidelity.
In 1969, he and his wife moved to a farm in Jackson County northeast of Netawaka. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church at Wetmore, Wetmore Knights of Columbus Council NO. 10301, and Levick-Barrett Post No 282 of the American Legion of Wetmore. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He served as an aircraft mechanic for forty six months in the South Pacific.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of the home; five sons: Bill Burdick, Wetmore; Phil Burdick, St. Joseph, Mo.; John Burdick of Whiting; Larry Burdick of Olathe; and Alan Burdick, Circleville: one daughter: Patty Detrixhe, Concordia; four brothers: Leonard Burdick, Sabetha; Regis Burdick and Edgar Burdick, both of Topeka; and Wilbur Burdick, Seneca; three sisters: Imelda Skoch, Axtell; Bernice Glover, Salina; and Marjorie Steinlage, Corning, and nine grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore. Burial was with full military honors in the Netawaka Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Norbert H. Burdick Memorial Fund, to be designated later, and may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton.
