Joshua Brown believed to be born in Washington County New York in approx. 1792. He married his first cousin, Sarah Pratt. As first cousins, they share the same grandparents; Daniel Pratt and Lydia Cobb. These Pratts are descended from the Mayflower pilgrim John Cooke.

Lydia and Joshua Brown had at least four children:

William Brown Sr 1814 – 1901
Luther Brown 1820 – 1896
Sarah M Brown Hay 1826 – 1897
Lydia Brown 1827 –

Records in the Saratoga County Surrogate Court report the will of Joshua Brown of Halfmoon:
Bonds: Sarah Brown, John B. Taylor, Luther Brown
Inventory: Articles to be set off for widow, filed ? Dec 1827.
Appraisers: Sarah Brown, John C. Taylor, Elijah Brown

This gives clues to Joshua's siblings as Elijah and Luther Brown, as his own sons were still very young. The name of Luther Brown continues for several generations.
