Mary Moore married Abraham Alloway Strange in Goochland, Fluvanna County, Virginia. Their marriage bond, signed by Mary's father, John Moore, is dated April 18, 1778. On the bond, Abraham is listed as Abraham Strange.

Mary and Abraham began their married life in Goochland. The birth and baptism of their oldest sons, Archelaus Strange and John Walker Strange, were recorded in the Douglas Register, the Parish Register of Goochland, by the Reverend William Douglas.

Archelaus was born July 12, 1780, and baptized October 21, 1781 in the St. James Northam Parish. John Walker was born September 27, 1781, and also baptized in the St. James Northam Parish on October 21, 1781. Mary's mother was Judith Walker, and Judith's maiden name was given to John for his middle name.

In the Register, Mary and Abraham's names were recorded in an abbreviated form as Abram Strange and Mary More.

Abraham's parents were John Alloway Strange Sr. and Ann Mitchell. In deeds, documents and published newspaper advertisements, John Alloway Strange Sr. always used the middle initial "A" or used his full name, John Alloway Strange.

Mary and Abraham's oldest son, Archelaus Alloway Strange, used the surname Strange, usually with the middle initial "A" throughout his life. As an adult, John Walker soon dropped the surname, Strange, and used only the name John Alloway. Their father, Abraham, sometimes used Strange and sometimes used Alloway, or Alloway Strange; his first name was sometimes recorded with the standard abbreviation "Abram." In the first United States Census in 1790, Abraham is listed as Abram Alloway. His will is signed as Abraham A. Strange.

After her marriage, Mary began using the middle initial "A" to denote the first half of her double surname, "Alloway Strange." There is no evidence that Mary had the middle name, "Ann." After Abrahams' death, In the 1820 US Federal Census for Wilkes County, North Carolina, as the Head of Household, Mary is recorded as Mary Alloway. In the 1830 US Federal Census for Wilkes County, as the Head of Household, Mary is recorded as Mary A. Strange.

Two more of their children were born in Virginia. Nancy Ann (Alloway Strange) Israel, was born about 1782, and Wilson Alloway was born about 1784. Wilson also dropped the second half of his surname, Strange.

The rest of Mary and Abraham's children were born in North Carolina, after the family first relocated to Burke County, and then to Wilkes County. Judith (Alloway Strange) Israel was born about 1785. Elizabeth (Alloway Strange) Johnson was born on May 25, 1787 in Wilkes. Susannah (Alloway Strange) Coffey was born about 1788. Hannah (Alloway Strange) Coffey was born on February 13, 1790 in Wilkes. William Alloway Strange was born about 1793. Abraham Thomas Alloway Sr. was born on September 30, 1794 in Wilkes. He also dropped the surname, Strange. Polly (Alloway Strange) was born about 1796. Nelson Alloway Strange was born on February 25, 1799.

In Abraham's will, written in 1814, and proved in the Wilkes County Court, July Term 1815, Mary was called "Molley" and all of their children were named. Mary retained the use of Abraham's property and his possessions. Abraham's estate was not fully settled until Mary's will was probated in March 1845, in Henderson County, North Carolina, followed by legal actions in 1847 to divide proceeds from the sale of the land.

Mary died at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and John Johnson.
