John Moore Sr. and his wife, Judith (Walker) Moore, were the parents of Jesse Moore Sr. and Mary "Molley" (Moore) Alloway Strange. John died in Fluvanna County, Virginia in *1794. His will, dated April 29, 1794, was proved and recorded on January 1, 1795. In John's will he left his property to his then wife, Agnes, and after her death or the end of her widowhood, to his son, John, and after John's death, if John died without "heirs of his body" to be divided among John Sr.'s remaining children.

On September 29, 1803, an Indenture of Sale (which was proved in Fluvanna Court on February 27, 1804, and recorded on April 23, 1804) for John Sr.'s property, owned by him at the time of his death, named his legatees (heirs): Warren Moore, Jesse Moore, Judith (Moore) Coker, Abraham A. Strange and Molley, his wife (Mary "Molley" Moore Alloway Strange), Easter (Moore) Oglesby, Rebeccah (Moore) Seay, Susanna (Moore) Perry, and William Moore.

Probate records and land transactions support the hypothesis that John Moore's father was Robert Moore who died in 1751 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, and his mother may be Robert's wife at the time of his death, Rosanna Warren (though Rosanna may be Robert's later wife, the mother only of Thomas, born about 1750, per Robert Moore's will, and George, born about 1748, per an indenture of apprenticeship recorded in Spotsylvania County).

If Robert Moore is John Moore's father, John's wife at the time of Rosanna's death in 1774 was Susanna. At the time of John Moore's death, in his will and in subsequent litigation, his wife was named as Agness. A marriage bond in Fluvanna County, Virginia, dated August 25, 1792, for John Moore and Agnes Melton, was secured by Pearce Wade Melton, who was probably Agnes' brother. In his will, John Moore named Pearce Wade Melton and Agnes Moore as the executors.

Judith (Walker) Moore is named as Jesse Moore Sr. and Mary Moore's mother in a direct descendant's journal entry from 1856 known as the Elijah Park Journal or the Elijah Park Diary, written by Elijah Moore Park, a great great grandson of John Moore. In this Journal, as transcribed, the children of John Moore and "Judy Walker" were named as: "John Moore, Ester Oglesby, Jessey Moore, Susan Perry, Matthew Moore, Judy Lees, Wm. Moore, Rebecca Sea, Warren Moore, and Molly Alaway."

If John's wife was Susanna in 1774 and Agnes in 1792, Judith (Walker) Moore was deceased prior to 1774. (Important: See Note 2 Below)

* John died in the year 1794 in Fluvanna County, most likely toward the end of the year, as his will was signed on April 29, 1794, and proved and recorded in Fluvanna County, Virginia, on January 1, 1795. The Inventory for his Estate was recorded in Fluvanna County on September 3, 1795. In published genealogies and public family trees, John's date and place of birth is most often recorded as 1717 in Spotsylvania County, possibly inferred from deeds, probate records, and his children's birth years, and his date and place of death is most often recorded as January 1, 1795, in Fluvanna County, Virginia.

Note 1:
When John Moore's Memorial was created his place of burial was listed as Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery in Paynes Mill, Fluvanna County, Virginia. Though John may be buried in the vicinity, the exact location cannot be documented, as the Beaver Dam Baptist Church was established in 1831, and the Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery was established in 1897.

Note 2:
A Find A Grave Contributor linked John Moore to a Memorial for Judith (Walker) Moore with Burial Details Unknown, and with approximate birth and death dates. This Memorial gives Judith's year of death as about 1792, a date which is not possible if John married Susanna in 1774. These approximate birth and death dates for Judith are not supported by any known document. It is likely that she died in Fluvanna County, Virginia, but her year of birth, and year of death, and the year of John and Judith's marriage is currently unknown.
