Mrs. Jap Caviness Compton - Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Church in Danville at 2 p. m. Saturday for Mrs. Jap Caviness Compton, 57, wife of Buford Compton, former Yell County Sheriff and Collector. Burial was in the family cemetery in Briggsville with Cornwell Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Compton died in a Little Rock hospital last Thursday after a long illness. She had been active in state and county affairs and a former member of the Democratic Central Committee and was county president of the Democratic Women. She was president of Danville and Fourche Valley P. T. A., President of the Women's Christian Service Society of the Danville Methodist Church, chairman of the Yell County Tuberculosis Association, and a steward in the Methodist Church at Wing. She is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. D. N. Keathley, Wing and Mrs. C. R. George, Danville; her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Caviness, Danville; four sisters, Mrs. D. B. White, Silver City, N. M. Mrs. Robert J. Compton, Phoenix, Mrs. Charles Nixon, Gary, Ind. and Mrs. Blakeley Gallagher, Hot Springs; a brother, Clyde Caviness, Danville and three grandchildren.
