Born 6th of 7 children, Laura Belle McKinley was born and raised in Arkansas. Her father fought in the Civil War and her mother died when Laura was a year old. She married Peter Franklin Simmons in 1879 (she was 15, he was 22)in Magnolia, Arkansas. They had 11 children, most of whom remainedin the Columbia/Union county area. She died of heart desiease at the age of 84.
