Moved from Georgia to Barbour County, Alabama about 1845. Married Mary Clementine Lewis in Alabama in 1849 and moved to Columbia County, Arkansas in late 1849. Purchased several lots of land there in 1856-1857 forming a good-sized plantation. Served with Company A, 15th Arkansas Infantry as a 1st Srgt during the Civil War. Enlisted Oct 4,1861 at Magnolia, Arkansas. Captured in February of 1862 or 1863 and imprisoned at Camp Butler in Springfield, Illinois. By bribing a guard with a $10 gold piece, he was able to escape with three others and make his way home to Arkansas. Mary C. Lewis died in 1865 and A.R. married widow, Mary Jane Griffith-Couch in 1867.1st Sgt Co. A 15 AR Inf CSA
