Sarah Ann HAND was born 27 September, 1855, in Washington County, Virginia, to Thomas O. HAND and Margaret C. BERRY. She married first to John DRINNON, in Hawkins County, Tennessee, on 28 March, 1878. John was the son of Lawrence "Larry" DRINNON and Sevilla Ann FRAZIER. He died in a freak "accident" after a wrestling match with his brother, James Madison "Matt" DRINNON. The two were arguing and John cut Matt's necktie off at the knot. Matt proceeded to shoot John in the leg. John died about early to mid-1879 after complications from the gunshot wound. The reason for the wrestling match was that John had found out that Sarah was pregnant by his brother, Matt. Sarah, from that pregnancy, went on to have a daughter, Laura DRINNON, born probably late 1879. Laurie is shown at age "1" on the 15 June, 1880, Hawkins County, Tennessee Census, living with her mother, Sarah, in the household of Anderson C. ROGERS and his wife, Jane (Sarah's sister). Laurie would later be known to family as "Aunt Laurie" DRINNON...

Sarah remarried to Rufus LAWSON, Sr. in Hawkins County, Tennessee, on 16 September, 1882. Sarah and Rufus would go on to have: John, Harvey, Clinton G., Eliza Jane, Rufus, Jr., and Willie Ann LAWSON.

James Madison "Matt" DRINNON went on to marry Elizabeth TRENT on 1 February, 1883, in Hawkins County, Tennessee.

Another daughter of Rufus and Sarah Ann (Hand)(Drinnon) LAWSON was Eliza Jane (Lawson) TEMPLETON (FindaGrave Memorial# 129201832) who is buried in the Gunnings Cemetery, in Gunnings, Sullivan County, Tennessee. Eliza Jane married George Washington TEMPLETON. I have been unable to get the person who manages Eliza Jane (Lawson) TEMPLETON'S memorial page on FindaGrave to respond to repeated requests to add Eliza Jane to the list of children shown below (as of 4 Nov., 2016).
