On 30 Sep 1944 he sailed on USS LCT Flotilla (6) Group 17. On 2 Jul 1945 he was a part of USS LCT (6) Group 112. One of his duties was on USS SC 1084, California on 4 Feb 1946.
In 1946 (Morton,Cochran,TX) he married Ruby Faye Smith and they had two sons Johnny Michael and Terry Douglas.
On 15 Nov 1953 he married Leona Irene (Perry) Hawk in Wichita, Sedgwick, KS. They had two daughters, Annette Louise who died in 1954 and Judy Ellen. He adopted Leona's sons.
