Barton, Merle R., 86, of Wichita, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in Derby, KS. Merle was born on May 28, 1928, in Wichita, the son of Lafayette and Agnes Barton. Merle and Dorothy Barton were united in marriage on June 27, 1951. Together they celebrated 63 years. Merle was a member of the Westview Baptist Church in Wichita. Merle was a sergeant in the United States Army during WWII. He was retired from Boeing Aircraft. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers. Survivors include his loving wife, Dorothy; children, Caron (Roger Combs) Pritchard, Bryan (Jan) Barton, Kathy (Robert) Bowling; sister, Sharon (Bob) Austin; grandchildren, Brandee (Will) Lewis, Barton Bowling, James Pritchard, Amber (Eric) Lagaly; and 7 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Westview Baptist Church, 1325 S. Meridian Ave., Wichita, KS 67213. A private family graveside will take place at a later date.
