RANDALIA—L. H. Van Sickle,
75, died at the University hospital
at Iowa City, Saturday afternoon,
after an illness of a month from
cancer. He was taken to Iowa
City, Dec. 20.
Funeral service was held from
the home west of Randalia at 1:30
Tuesday afternoon and at 2
o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal
church. Rev. C. Oelfke, pastor,
officiated.
Casket Bearers Named
Burial was made in the Dunham
Grove cemetery. Casket
bearers were: Pete Hoephner, Byron
Bronn, Walter Butts, Leslie
Faye, Earl Beamen and Wayne Riser.
Lehman Van Sickle, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Lehman Van
Sickle, was born June 11, 1863,
at Johnstown, Maryland. He
came to Iowa when four years of
age to Center township, Fayette
county, where he has since lived.
He received his education at Upper
Iowa University at Fayette.
Taught At Fayette
He was principal of the Hawkeye
school in the 1890's. He was
married to Miss Lizzie Lunday,
who preceded h im in death Nov.
21, 1891. He was married to Roda
Hart, Maynard, Feb. 20, 1896,
whom he met when she also
taught in the 1890's, the primary
grades of Hawkeye school.
He is survived by Mrs. Van
Sickle and 10 children: Mrs.
Floyd Hack, Waterloo; Orville,
Hawkeye; Raymond and Mrs.
Henry Dettwieler, Monroe, Wis.;
Mrs. Hattie Wilbur, Randalia;
Mrs. Henry Chenney, Des Moines;
Albert, Waterloo; Mrs. D.R. Winter,
McGregor; and Mrs. Charles
Pecinosckey, Des Moines.
Three sisters who survive are:
Mrs. Minnie Smith, Wyoming;
Mrs. Charlotte Vaughn, Randalia;
Mrs. Nancy Height, New Mexico;
Thomas, Fulton, Kan.. Three halfbrothers
are Henry, Minneapolis;
Levi, Fayette; Jim, West Union:
and three half-sisters "are: Mrs.
Lydia Lee, Minneapolis; 'Mrs.
Grace Simms, Minneapolis; and
Mrs. Lizzie Averill, Arlington
