She was born Itra Mary Alice Gilbert to Greeley and Martha Ethel McCraw Gilbert. Itra was the second born of nine children. Her siblings were, Glayds Estees, Roy D. Leamon Andrew, Melvin Lenard, Lloyd Hawkins, Jean G. Lees, Mary Lee Carolyn Elmore, Martha Eloyce Stevens Richhart. Itra spent all her life in the area know as Lock 17, or Patton Ferry Road. Itra met and married Meredith Matthew "Matt" Burchfield on 25 Feb 1939. They had a home and store "The Burchfield Store" right on the Warrior river in their early years. As some people might remember this area was know for its fishing camps. After some years they moved the house and store further up from the river, with the flooding of the new lock. Matt and Itra raised two children in this area, their son Walter still lives close by. Matt died in 1973 but Itra continued to run the store for many years after until her death in 1998.
