Leamon was born and raised in the Adger Alabama area until the age of 15. In November of 1939 Leamons father was shot and killed. Leamon went to live with his oldest sister, Gladys Estes, in Phenix City, Alabama. Their he worked learning the trade of auto mechanic from Doyle Estes, Gladys husband. Leamon didn't finish school, only had an education to the 8th grade. But he joined the Army Air Corp in 1942, got his GED and was an auto mechanic in the military earning $25.00 a week. The Army Air Corp wasn't the Air Force until after Sept 1947. His two younger brothers Melvin and Lloyd joined the Navy and between the three boys, they sent money home to their mother to help raise the three younger sisters.

In 1946 Leamon met and married Mary Jane Mulligan in Clark Co., Las Vegas. The have three children together, Steven, Nancy and L.A. Jr., all three born in different states. Leamon or "Gil" as he was refer to in the military, served 30 years in the Air Force. His last base was Offutt AFB in Bellevue Nebraska. In 1968 Leamon and Mary purchased their first home together in Bellevue. Leamon lost Mary in 1972, he did remarry. Leamon died at the VA Hospital in Omaha, NE from heart/lung problems.
