OTTO M. HIRSCHLER, 81, died Wednesday morning, February 14, 1954, at 5:40 in the home of his son Carl. He had been in failing health for three and a half years and seriously ill for four weeks.
Born February 15, 1873, in Lee County, he was a life long resident of this vicinity and was a farmer by occupation.
He was confirmed in Zion Mennonite Church September 15, 1887. He was an active member of the St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church and when the present structure was built he was a member of the building committee. He also was very active in community affairs.
On February10, 1903 he married Anna Maria Abel. She died September 8, 1944.
Surviving are three sons, Carl and Guthrie of Donnellson and Sherman of Fairfield; four grandchildren; one brother, Oswald of Upland, California; two sisters, Mrs. Katharine Mattern, Burlington, and Mrs. Hulda Koller, Donnellson.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services were held in St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. J. Sherrill Gohde officiating.
Mrs. Glenwood Long and Mrs. Dewayne Hentzel sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and " In the Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Meyer Jr.
Burial was in the Evangelical cemetery, the following being pallbearers: Henry Abel, Harold Koller. Raymond Abel, David T, Hirschler, Leroy Abel, and Sam Bentzinger.
Among relatives from a distance attending were John Loehler, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hempen, Sutter, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hirschler, Mrs. Sherman Horner, Mrs. Maurice Hawkins, Mrs. Katie Hoyer, Mrs. Clarence Graf, Mrs. Don Singleton, Keokuk; Mrs. Leo Hann, Burlington; Mrs. Victor Swindermann, Mrs. Charles Schrepfer, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fischer, Fort Madison.
