JOSEPH WILLIAM KISLING

Joseph William Kisling, one of nine children was born In Ohio, January 23, 1869. Married Elizabeth Shanks August 9, 1884. Mr. and Mrs. Kisling celebrated their 61st
wedding anniversary August 9, 1955. In 1900 Joseph moved his family from Ohio to
Guthrie County, Iowa, where he farmed for eighteen years. In 1918 they moved to Adel,
Iowa where Mr. Kisling was employed the Adel Products as a fireman until the time of his
retirement in 1938. Mr. Kisling suffered a stroke in 1944 and a year later became bedfast until the time of his death. Mr. Kisling passed away at his home December 23, 1955 at
6:00 p.m.
His survivors are: his wife Elizabeth Kisling; five living children, Mrs. Jeam Sumner,
Weisne, Idaho; Mrs. Lilly Murphy, Adel; Thomas Kisling, Pica, California; Mrs. Clair
Miller, Adel; and Mr. David Kisling, Adel, Iowa. One daughter, Clara Kisling died in
1918.
Mr. Kisling has two sisters and one brother living; Mrs. Tena Baker, Blair, Nebraska;
Mrs. Viola Freece Onawa, Iowa; and Mr. Tom Kisling, Sioux city, Iowa.
Mr. Kisling had twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and two
great great grandchildren.
The funeral was at the Fisher Funeral Home December 27, 1955 at 2:00 p.m. The
body was laid to rest in the Oakdale Cemetery, Adel.
