Rites Slated For Sumners

Chester Arthur Sumner, 83, a long time resident of Weiser, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Memorial Hospital, Weiser, also his wife Janie Belle Sumner, 70, who died Monday, Sept. 17, at the hospital.

Mr. Sumner was born April 27, 1890, at Cantana, Iowa, the son of Jonathan Scott Sumner and Rhoda Irene Thompson Sumner.

Mrs. Sumner was born July 28, 1895, at Locust Grove, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph William Kisling and Eliza Ann Shank.

The couple were married July 28, 1913 in Iowa. They lived in Adol, Iowa, for several years, then moved to Alliance, Nebr., where he was employed by the C B Q Railroad. In 1934 they moved to Payette. Since 1942 they made their home in Weiser, where he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as an inspector until his retirement.

Survivors are three sons, Robert E. Sumner, Payallup, Wash.; Joseph Sumner, Weiser; Chester Sumner, North Highland, Calif., six daughters, Mrs. Eric B. (Mary) Johnson, Redding, Calif.; Mrs. Louis L. (Norma) Kiser, Meridian; Mrs. Norman (Neva) Derrick, Pasco, Wash.; Mrs. Richard (Edna) Hult, Citrus Heights, Calif.; Mrs. Don (Anna) Anderson, Boise; Mrs. William E. (Mildred) Lauer Othello, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jacqueline Sumner, Weiser; 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

They were preceded in death by a son, Paul Sumner, Aug. 18, 1973.

Mrs. Sumner in survived by a sister, Mrs. Effie Miller, DeSoto, Iowa; a brother, David L. Kisling, Adel, Iowa.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Sumner were to be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Northam-Jones Chapel, the Rev. Joseph Wagnon officiating, assisted by Don Hardenbrook. Interment will follow at Hillcrest.
