Henry married Catharine Kaufman, dau of Henry Kaufman/Coffman/Coffma and Elizabeth Peterman/Pretzman, on 28 Jul 1803 in Botetourt Co., VA; the marriage was performed by Rev. John Helms who lists them as Henry Hontz and Catharine Coffman.
Henry and Catharine had seven children: Mary Magdalen "Polly" Honts b. 1806, Jacob John (he did not use Honts as his last name) b. 1808, Elizabeth Honts b. 1809, Unknown child b. bef 1810, Daniel Honts b. 1811, Henry Honts b. 1814, Peter Honts b. 1815. All children were b. in Botetourt Co., VA. Henry and Catharine lived on the land inherited from his father.
Henry and Catharine separated about 1814-15. Henry sold the land on Back Creek in 1818 and removed to Tennessee, taking four of his children with him: Jacob, Daniel, an unknown son, and Elizabeth. Elizabeth Firestone Lampert also moved to Tennessee, and their first child, Ezra, was b. in 1816, possibly in Tennessee. A second son, Mathias (Matthew) was b. 16 Apr 1817 in Grainger Co., Tennessee. Elizabeth's mother, Evey, and her dau Priscilla, from her first marriage, accompanied them.
Elizabeth Firestone Lampert, dau of Nicholas Firestone and Eve Schwab, had married George Lampert (Lamposter, Lambert) in 1809 and they had a dau, Priscilla, b. 1810, but it is unknown what happened to George. Henry and Elizabeth married 10 Apr 1824 in Knox Co., Tennessee.
Henry and Elizabeth sold their land in Tennessee in 1831, but may have already been living in Hancock Co., Indiana by then. They were living between Maple Valley and Shirley by 1834. They contracted with their son Ezra to take over the farm in return for caring for them in their later years, but that did not work out. Their son Matthew did farm their land and care for his parents until his mother's death in 1862, and his father's in 1864.
The above information is from, "The Descendants of Jacob Hons/Jacob John" by George E. Honts III, Revised Ed. October 1999, and available from the Botetourt (VA) Historical Society. In the book he states that he found Henry & Elizabeth's headstones in 1993 in the desecrated cemetery he called the Yetter (Liztown) Cemetery at Maple Valley. The stones were laying flat on the ground and he published a photograph of them in his book.
It is unknown where Henry's first wife, Catharine Kauffman, is buried. She remained in Botetourt and lived in Amsterdam, VA. She remained in VA until probably ~ 1865, and in 1867, the Sheriff of Botetourt noted that she was, "Not found, gone to Illinois." She was 83, and may have moved to Illinois to be with her dau Polly, who had m. Wiley Anderson Murrell. Polly was in Roseville, Warren, Illinois from about 1853-1868, when they moved to Iowa.
