Extract from Trinity Journal, Weaverville dated March 23, 1912
'Thomas Coumbes, a well known and respected citizen of the county for over thirty-five years last past, died in town in the home of his daughter Mrs. S.M. Gibson last Saturday. His death was result of heart failure...
Mr. Coumbs was a good citizen in every sense of the word. Of quiet and unassuming manners and of kindly temperment, he enjoyed the friendship and respect of everyone who knew him. In his business dealings he was thoroughly reliable and a man of unquestioned integrity. He was a good husband, a kind and devoted father, a first class and stanch friend-as good an epitaph as can be written of any man."
