WARSAW, Ill. -- Jared Daniel "Jake" Campbell, 85, of Warsaw died at 4:55 p.m. Friday (June 1, 2001) in Memorial Hospital in Carthage of natural causes.
Jake was born May 27, 1916, a son of Thomas Francis and Sara Peddicord Campbell in Loraine.
Jake served the U.S. Army overseas in World War II in the military police in Guadalcanal, Luzon and the Russell Islands.
He moved to Warsaw in 1946 following the war where he farmed until retiring in 1984.
Jake was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Clara Campbell of Carthage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas P. and Carl L.; and six sisters, Victorine Sherman, Katherine Adair, Cleo Norvell, Agnes Miller, Marjorie Brandenburg and Dorothy Sloniger.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage by Pastor Larry Menschel.
Committal services will be in Loraine Cemetery in Loraine at noon Tuesday with full military rites.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today with family meeting friends 6-8 tonight in the Neiser-Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
A memorial fund has been established.
