CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Thomas P. Campbell, 79, a resident of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Carthage where he had owned and operated the Peacock Inn for many years, died at 6:38 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 11, 1989) in Blessing Hospital.
Mr. Campbell was born Jan. 11, 1910, in Loraine, a son of Thomas F. and Ellen Petticord Campbell.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Campbell had served in the European Theater. He was of the Catholic faith and an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas P. Jr. of Willard, Mo., and Michael of Springfield, Mo.; three daughters, Jenny Sanders of Chadwick, Mo., Mary Hallbrook of Jefferson City, Mo., and Julie Campbell of Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Jerrod "Jake" of Warsaw; four sisters, Katherine Adair of Mendon, Victorine Sherman of Quincy, Cleo Norvill of Paducah, Ky., and Marjorie Brandenburg of Jeffersonville, Ind.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl, and two sisters, Agnes Willard and Dorothy Sloniger.
Services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the All Faiths Chapel in the Illinois Veterans Home by the Rev. Richard Jeske. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The Curry-Hunter Funeral Home of Mendon is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in All Faith Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.
