She was married to Dewitt C. Serene, January 8, 1862; removed from Ford county, Illinois, to the farm near Randalia in January, 1890, where she died after an illness of one year. Sr. Serene was the mother of four children-Allen, Almeda, Cora, and Elvira, all of whom are married, and with the bereaved husband and many relatives mourn their loss.
She embraced the gospel many years ago, being baptized into the Reorganization by Elder T. W. Smith, at Piper City, Illinois, and ever afterward lived a consistent, Christian life.
During her long illness, she was patient and resigned, anxiously looking for the summons home, often asking those around if they did not think she would soon be relieved and be privileged to "go home."
Conscious to the last, she expressed her unshaken faith in God and his gospel, and quietly closed her eyes on the loved ones of this world and opened them in the presence of the Savior she had so faithfully served.
Funeral services were held at the hall at Randalia, the sermon being delivered by Elder J. R. Sutton of Fulton, Iowa; texts Rev. 14: 13;
John 5: 24, 25. The Randalia choir furnished appropriate music. The remains were interred in Randalia cemetery, followed by a large number of sympathizing friends and relatives.
