Michael George Brose, age 77, of rural Winsted, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012.
He was born July 26, 1935, in rural Winsted, the son of Adalbert and Isabelle Fasching Brose.
Michael was baptized at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted in 1935.
He played in the community band for 12 years.
Mike farmed with his father until he entered the US Army, serving in the Infantry Division.
He previously worked for Green Giant in Winsted.
Mike married Dorothy Jane Zeleny June 21, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Albert Slechta performed the wedding ceremony.
Mike purchased the family farm from his parents in 1970, and also worked at Millerbernd Manufacturing Company in Winsted, until he retired.
He was always helping others, and he put his family before himself. Mike was a handyman with carpentry, and also mechanically inclined.
He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and country music. Mike also loved nature and traveling.
He was a life-long faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 8253, and to the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 1054.
Michael is survived by his children: Sharon (Mark) Menden of Shakopee, Mike Brose Jr. of Winsted, Francis Brose of Watertown, and Mark Brose of Winsted; grandchildren Jeremy, Jason and Sarah Menden, and Michelle and Juan; a brother, Ralph Brose of Cass Lake; and sisters Sylvia Horstmann of Winsted, and Charmaine Hartmann of Osakis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Brose, Dec. 28, 2008; his parents; a brother, Stephan Brose; and by a sister, Elmerine Nowak.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Father Tony Stubeda as the celebrant. Interment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m., and a combined Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation continued Thursday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Casket bearers were Jeremy and Jason Menden, Bruce and Harvey Nowak, Beverly Hoffmann, and Bill Droege.
