Earl W. Johnston, 74, of Brumbaugh Lane, Seneca, died at 7:01 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born March 30, 1936, in DuBois, he was the son of Ralph C. and Marjorie E. Clarke Johnston.

He was a 1955 graduate of DuBois High School, served in the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1961, stationed at Port Whittier, Alaska, where he served primarily as a military vehicle mechanic. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, attended worship services at the Seneca United Methodist Church, and enjoyed and appreciated visits from his pastor, Rev. Rob Wilson. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed repairing clocks and watches, working on older automobiles, and spending time with his grandchildren. In his earlier years, he enjoyed flying his own Piper Cub airplane. He first worked as a diesel truck mechanic for Shaw Mack in DuBois and later for Refiners Transport and Terminal Corp. in Oil City. After retiring, he enjoyed working as a mechanic for Ron's Garage on Riverside Drive in Oil City.

On Feb. 6, 1965, in DuBois he married Margot K. Jacobson, who survives, with a daughter, Sherri Webster and husband, David of Oil City; three grandchildren, Dan Dunkel and wife Brenda of Oil City, Nicole Everett and husband Lynne of Edinboro, and Mike Dunkel and girlfriend Christian Lucas of Seneca; two great-grandchildren, Erin Everett and Brayden Dunkel; four brothers, Ralph Johnston of DuBois, Seth Johnston of Wyalusing, Jack Johnston of Punxsutawney, and George Johnston of Troutville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased are his parents; a sister, Jane DeQuinze; and two brothers, James and Harry Johnston.

Services will be at Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Route 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township with Rev. Pat Ellis, pastor of Heckathorn United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Heckathorn Cemetery, Cranberry Township.
