"Johannis Spoor was one of the petitioners from Ulster county of the 'Protestants of America to King William III,' dated 30 Dec. 1701." A document dated 20 Oct 1702 begins "...Johannis Spoor of Kingstown in ye county of Ulster, Wheelewright..." He was later mentioned as an ensign in the "Roll of the Independent Companie of the Mannor of Livingston mustered at ye Mannor House, 30 Nov., 1715." "He joined the newly founded church at Linlithgow, Albany (now Columbia county), as one of its early members in August, 1722, together with Claes Brusie, Dirck Hallenbeck and Conradt Ham... We next learn of him in 1731, when he is dignified with the title of Captain and purchased of the Indians for thirty pounds and a suit of clothes, six hundred acres of land on Egremont Plain, in Berkshire county, Massachusetts. He had with him at that time his three younger sons, Isaac, Jacob, and Cornelius. After settling his younger sons on these lands, Captain Spoor returned to New York state, since he joined the church at Albany from Kinderhook in 1740... He also held the office of constable in Albany (third ward) in 1735 and again in 1736, 'for the ensuing year.'
