A niece (by marriage) of George Washington, Frances was raised in Culpeper County. She was married 27 June 1822 in Richmond by the Rev. John "Parson" Blair. She was mother to 12 children, three of whom survived her.

After her husband Humphrey's death, she traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe. She eventually died of "Apoplexy", per Cemetery records, and is buried nears her husband in his plot.
