Dr. Lawrence Lewis, s. of Howell Lewis and Ellen Hackley Pollard, b. Dec. 15, 1813 at Kanawha, Mason County, Virginia (now the State of West Virginia). He d. Dec. 20, 1878 at St. Clair County, MO.

On Feb. 8, 1843 at Benton County, MO, Dr. Lewis m. 1) Mary Ferguson, dau. of Robert and Diadema Ferguson. She d. Dec. 24, 1845 at St. Clair County, MO. There was one child of the marriage.

On Mar. 14, 1853 at Lewisburg, Greene County, VA, Dr. Lewis m. 2) Mary Emeline Reynolds. There were ten children of the marriage.

An extended bio will be added later. Dr. Lawrence Lewis was the grandson of Col. Fielding Lewis and Betty Washington, latter the two year younger natural sister of Gen. George Washington, first President of the United States.

All of the children of Dr. Lewis were b. at St. Clair County, MO. The current focus of this memorial is Dr. Lewis' only child by first wife Mary Ferguson:

• Martha Ellen Lewis, b. Feb. 8, 1844, d. May 13, 1901 at Seattle, Washington; m. Aug. 26, 1869 likely at St. Clair County, MO, Henry Waite Douglass, youngest son of Col. George S. Douglass and Elizabeth Selden, b. June 19, 1839 at Bates County, MO. He possibly d. Dec. 14, 1915 at Prineville, Crook County, Oregon. Four known children of the family, but only the youngest child survived beyond infancy, never married and left no issue.

The children of Dr. Lewis and second wife Mary Emeline Reynolds will be added later.
