Caroline A. Shattuck was born in Jerusalem, Yates county, N.Y., December 1, 1841, and died in Almena, July 19, 1903, aged 62 years, 7 months and 18 days.
At the age of 16 years she was married to Wm. S. Brown, March 13, 1859. Twelve children were born to them, nine of whom survive her. John W. and Chester F., who reside at home, Wm. F. of Paw Paw, Eugene A. of Cooper, George W. of Almena, Rachel Areaue [sic], Clara Polmanteer, and Jessie Stoughton of Almena, and Hattie Hosner of Lawton.
She came to Michigan with her parents in 1844 and removed to Van Buren county in 1857 having been a resident ever since.
She leaves a husband, nine children and 19 grandchildren, one sister, Angeline of Mason of Augusta, and four brothers, Joel S. of New York, Wheeler S. of Bloomingdale, Alosen S. of Grad Rapids and Wm. S. of Dailey, besides many friends and acquaintances to mourn her loss. Death came very unexpectedly and was the result of a complication of diseases which terminated in spinal meningitis.
The funeral service was held at the sidence Tuesday at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. I.P. Bates, and she was laid to rest in the Almena cemetery.
