"Brown
William S. Brown was born in Yates county, N.Y., April 9, 1835. He came to Michigan with his parents in 1839, and lived until he was 25 years old in Farmington, 16 miles from Detroit.
He was married to Caroline A. Shattuck in 1859 and has since resided in Van Buren county.
To Mr. and Mrs. Brown were born 12 childen, eight of whom survive him, besides 28 grand children and 3 great grandchildren. He leaves also three sisters, Mrs. Emma Spoonster of California, Mrs. Amanda Shattuck of Kalamazoo, Mrs. Anne Cronk of Schoolcraft and a half-brother, Mr. Frank Roberts of Ypsilanti.
He was a kind and indulgent father, and a long and patient sufferer.
He departed this life April 18, 1916, aged 18 [sic - should read 81] years and 9 days."
