Rev. Alfred Alf
The Rev. Alfred Alf, 84, retired Congregational minister and missionary for 25 years in China, died early today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D. A. Corlett, 1724 NE 48th Avenue. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holman & Lutz Colonial mortuary and commitment will be in Portland crematorium. He was born in Sweden, came to the United States when a lad and spent his early life in Iowa. He was a graduate of Carlton college and Chicago Theological seminary and was ordained in 1891. In 1892 he went to China. He returned to the United States in 1917 and joined the Congregational Ministerial association in North Dakota, serving churches there, in Nebraska and Colorado. He had lived here over two years. His wife, I. Elisabeth Alf; and other children, Mrs. J. T. Andrew, Mrs. E. G. Stehlik, and Alfred I., Wilfred D. and Raymond M. Alf; 15 grandchildren and brother, Gustav Alf, survive.
