Edna Marie Kruse was born on December 17, 1915 in Tyler, Minnesota to Niels Sigurd Kruse and Sigrid Amalia Linnet Kruse.

Edna married August Casper Shriver on April 12, 1935 in Tyler, Minnesota. They had four children together. They farmed four and half miles south of Tyler for over 55 years until August's death in 1994.

She was a loving great grandmother. She loved to share her stories of the past while looking at photographs. She enjoyed playing Pepper and passing the game down to the younger generations in the family.

Edna passed away on September 8, 2012 in Tyler, Minnesota at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 22 days.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren and 6 spouses, 22 great grandchildren and 3 spouses, 6 great great grandchildren, and a sister.

Services for Edna Shriver, 96, of Tyler, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Tyler with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the church service.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Arrangements are provided by Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Tyler.

Memorial services for Edna Shriver, age 96 of Tyler, will be Saturday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. Memorial visitation is Friday, Sept. 14 at Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Tyler from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the church service. Burial of the cremated remains will be at the church cemetery.

Arrangements are provided by Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Tyler.

Edna Marie (Kruse) Shriver was born on Dec. 17, 1915, to Nels Sigurd and Sigrid (Linnet) Kruse in Hope Township, Lincoln County. She was baptized and confirmed at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. She attended grade school at BØrneskolen (the Children's School) at Danebod, where classes were taught half a day in Danish and half a day in English. Edna attended Tyler High School and graduated in 1934.

While in high school, Edna met August "Buster" Shriver at a barn dance. They were married on April 12, 1935. The couple farmed south of Ruthton for a year then moved to a farm south of Tyler, where they farmed for 55 more years. Their marriage was blessed with four children and 59 years of life together. August died in 1994.

Edna moved to Danebod Village in 1994. She became a resident of Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in 2010, where she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sept. 8 at the age of 96 years, eight months and 22 days.

Edna was a lifelong member of Danebod Lutheran Church. She was a founding member of the Danish Ladies Aid. She also was active in the Hope Afternoon Club, Home Extension, Danebod Quilters, Hobby Club and participated in Relay For Life. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, making ceramics and had a special ability to grow flowers.

Edna will be remembered for her quiet and unassuming nature. She directed attention away from herself and focused on the needs of others. She showed an interest in everyone she met, always putting their feelings first.

Survivors include her children Ronald (Mavis) Shriver of Woodbury, Elaine Shriver (Bob Stevens) of St. Paul, Sharon (Dale) Koster of Atlanta, Ga. and Lois (Al) DeLeon of Britt, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; one sister, Harriet Sorensen of Peterborough, N.H.; sisters-in-law DeLoris Kruse of Bozeman, Mont. and Pearl Kruse of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; brother-in-law Vic Ecklund of Hot Springs, Ark.; special friend Doris Kragh and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, two sisters and one great-granddaughter.
