LUCILLE GRENIER HART
Lucille Grenier Hart was born on March 28, 1923 in Thorne, North Dakota to Simeon and Clara (Casavant) Grenier. Lucy was the first daughter of a family of four boys and three girls. She graduated Notre Dame Academy High School in Willow City, North Dakota, attended the School of Forestry in Bottineau, North Dakota, and earned her BS in Chemistry from North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo, North Dakota. She served as President of Phi Mu sorority.
Lucy was a wife and mother. During her senior year in college, Captain Dean Hart's Army unit was assigned to harvest wheat in North Dakota. After a short courtship, the farmer's daughter married Captain Hart on November 2, 1943 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Thorne, North Dakota. After graduation, Lucy followed Dean to Army camp in Tennessee until his ship sailed to fight in the European theater. Dean and Lucy settled in Pauls Valley after the war and enjoyed almost 64 years of marriage. They raised six children: Dean Jr., Charlotte, Anastasia, Lucinda, Laura Beth and Simon.
For 23 years Lucy was a Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) member, serving as Lee School PTA president and PTA Council president. Lucy also did all the things a mother of six children does: football mom, band parent, Den mother, Girl Scout leader, baked an endless supply of cakes, cookies and worked rummage sales. She served as an officer of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Catherine's Altar Society, and the Pauls Valley General Hospital Auxiliary. She LOVED playing bridge, duplicate, and entertaining.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dean Hart, Sr.; her parents Simeon and Clara Grenier; her brothers Ted Grenier of Thorne, North Dakota and Harvey Grenier (who was killed during WWII and buried at Hamm, Luxembourg); her sisters Velma Millang of Dunseith, North Dakota and Dorine Stephens of Sulphur, Oklahoma.
Lucy Hart is survived by two brothers: Darrald Grenier of Alexandria, Minnesota and Orville Grenier of Rolette, North Dakota; by six children – Dean Hart, Jr. and wife JoAnn of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; Charlotte Hart of West Newton, Massachusetts; Anastasia Shirley and husband Doug of Watonga, Oklahoma; Lucinda Kennon and husband Philip of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Laura Howell and husband Anthony of Silver City, New Mexico; and Simon Hart of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; by twelve grandchildren and by twelve great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to Elizabeth Jones for her loving care to our mother and family and to Valley Hospice for the care they provided.
