Orville Grenier, age 89, of Rolette, ND passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Orville L. Grenier was born on January 25, 1934 in Rolette, ND to Simeon and Clara (Casavant) Grenier. He was the youngest of seven children. He grew up on the family farm in Thorne, ND and attended elementary school in Shell Valley, Notre Dame Academy in Willow City, St. Thomas Military Academy in Minneapolis and graduated from Rolla High School. Orville was known to enjoy himself to the fullest, but also worked hard. He took over the family farm in his early 20's and it was his gift and passion. Orville was united in marriage to Margaret "Mickey" Haagenson on February 11, 1960 in Thorne, ND. Together they raised seven children, Marty, Steven, Paul, Jacie, Kathy, Byron and Wade. They were married for 45 years, when Mickey passed in 2005. Orville retired from farming in 2008 and moved into Rolette. In his retirement he enjoyed golfing, playing cards, dice, coffee with the crowd at the mall, lunch at the Rolette Café, ice fishing, going for drives to check out the crops, cheering on the Vikings, Twins and local high school sports. Orville did travel a little in his retirement, but for him nothing beat the simple pleasures of North Dakota. When Orville was 85, he had the blessing of welcoming his first son Craig Grassel and his family into the fold, which brought him and his children great joy. Orville was generous, kind, hard-working and always provided for his family. Orville loved time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and always had time for a cup of coffee with good friends. We all know he's enjoying a cheeseburger in paradise with Mickey. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Orville is survived by his children, Craig (Lynn) Grassel of Bismarck, Marty (Crystal) Grenier of Bottineau, Steven (Meghan) Grenier of Rolette, Paul (Paula) Grenier of Viroqua, WI, Jacie (Maciek) Sikora of Minneapolis, MN, Kathy (Mike) Derr of Minneapolis, MN, Byron (Janell) Grenier of Nikiski, AK, and Wade (Michele) Grenier of Rolette; 22 grandchildren, Lisa (Kris) Jacobson, Carl (Katy) Grassel, Jacob (Susan) Grassel, Baylee Grenier, Anaka Grenier, Kelsie (Myles) Brooks, Devon Grenier, Shelby Grenier, Adrianna Grenier, Sylvia Grenier, Julia Grenier Misa Grenier, Justys Grenier, Perla Grenier, Kasia Sikora, Clayton Derr, Sophia Derr, Simon Grenier, Maggie Grenier, Connor Grenier, Kirklan Grenier, and Elise Grenier; seven great grandchildren, Solvei, Kai, Claire, Autumn, James, Lucy, and Madeleine; sister-in-law's, Janet (Bernd) Sedlacek of Great Falls, MT and Cheryl Haagenson of Dunseith; and many nieces and nephews.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents, Simeon and Clara Grenier, wife, Mickey Grenier, great grandchild, Ollie Nels Brooks, and siblings: Theodore Grenier, Harvey Grenier, Lucille Hart, Doreen Stephen, Velma Millang, and Darrald Grenier.

Honorary pallbearers are all grandchildren, special friend and caregiver, Tracy Casavant, and faithful friend, Alfred Mongeon.
