The former Helen M. Vukovich was born Feb. 16, 1911, in Nashwauk, Minn., the daughter of the late Louis and Helen (Hlebar) Vukovich. She attended Bessemer, Marenisco and Wakefield, Mich., schools, and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1930. She was employed as a postal clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Ramsay, Mich., from 1932-1945, and at the main U.S. Post Office branch in Chicago from 1945 to her retirement in 1969, residing in Ironwood on Chestnut Street up until mid-August of this year.
Helen was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She loved spending time at home and shopping on the QVC channel. She also enjoyed traveling, dancing and the theater.
On June 17, 1957, she married Kenneth P. Roberts in Crown Point, Ind. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1995.
Surviving are a son, Daniel, of Madison; two daughters, Patricia (Daniel) Brandt, Park Falls, and Margaret Manson, Waupaca; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, John and Lori DeMario, Ironwood.
Besides her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Louie and George; and sisters, Eva, Marie, Barbara and Anne.
Private interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
