Willie was the 5th child born to Clinton H. and Lillian Effie (Means) Herbert of Morgan Co., AL. She married Paul Edward Cash on August 2, 1958 in Clark Co., NV--the couple had no children. Paul passed away in 1986.

Willie's paternal grandparents were Ripsy W. Herbert (shown as Ripley Hubbard on several census records) and Minnie Mayfield Herbert.

I met Willie in 2010 when I was in Ellsinore, MO visiting my aunts, Annie and Virgie. The three of them were part of the Happy Valley Quilting Club that had spent numerous hours over the year working on a beautiful quilt in preparation for a raffle being held at the Labor Day festival. It was thrilling to have my name drawn and to become the proud owner of that gorgeous quilt (see photo). I will cherish it for the remainder of my life for all the wonderful memories associated with it.

I visited and spoke with Willie several times over the last 2 years of her life. She had many lovely quilts at her home that she had created and it was a joy listening to her talk about them.

Another great love of hers was her cats and kittens. She had rescued most of them and adored them all. Most of them were outside cats, but they all had very comfortable and warm places to sleep and ate as much as she would feed them. They were her babies!

What a pleasure and blessing it was to have met and spent time with this incredibly gracious, caring, interesting, and super-funny lady!
