Two weeks ago we chronicled the death of Mr. William Hildebrand, of Mount Union. Last week we told of the probably fatal accident that had befallen his wife and widow, and now it is our sad duty to record her death from the effects of that accident. Her fall down the stairs occurred a 2 a.m. on Wednesday of last week. She died Friday, May 6th at 1.05 p.m. She never spoke but a word or two after getting hurt and could not tell about the fall. She probably tripped or made a misstep at the head of the stairs. She struck on her head at the foot, and never recovered from the shock. Funeral services were held in the M. E. church on Sabbath last and she was bornethence to the Odd Fellows' Cemetery, followed by a large concourse of friends and neighbors. He husband had preceded her there but eight days. The services in the Presbyterian church were postponed until evening so that all might attend her funeral.
Margaret Gilliland was born in Blacklog Valley, March 6, 1820, and was married to William Hildebrand August 1, 1844. The aged couple had rounded out nearly half a century of married life and in death were only separated eight days. Both were converted and joined the M. E. church about thirty years ago, and had been faithful and devoted Christians since. Eight children were born unto them, two sons and three daughters surviving, the names of whom we gave two weeks since. Mrs. Hildebrand was aged 72 years and 2 months at the time of her death. She had four sisters and one brother, all of whom are dead except Mrs. Hannah Swisher, of Newton Hamilton, who attended her funeral. All the children and friends have the sympathy of our people in their double bereavement.
