Services for Lewis F. Beard tomorrow at 11
Services for Lewis F. Beard, 90, of 2204 George Road, Clearfield, who died Friday, March 4, 1994, at the Clearfield Hospital will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clerafield.
The Rev. Thomas Jacobs will officiate and interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow until the hour of services.
The Clearfield Lodge No. 314 F & A M will conduct a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Beard had retired as president of Beard Oil Co., Clearfield, having been in the petroleum business for more than 70 years.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church; was a member of the Clearfield Lodge No. 314 F & A M, the WIlliamsport Consistory, the Altoona Jaffa Shrine and received the Masonic 33rd Honorary Degree.
Also, Mr. Beard was a charter member of the Clearfied Kiwanis Club; a member of the Philipsburg Council No. 621, The Order of United Commercial Travelers, for more than 55 years; a member of the Clearfield Lodge No. 198 I.O.O.F. and a Clearfield School Board of director for 13 years.
Mr. Beard served as a director of the Clearfield Bank & Trust for 39 years, headed the Clearfield Red Cross Campaign in 1950, previously served as chairman of the former Clearfield County Division of the Associated Petroleum Industries of Pennsylvania and was a member of the Second Ward Hose Co.
On Feb. 26, he celebrated his 90th birthday with all of his family and many friends present.
Mr. Beard was born in DuBois on Feb. 28, 1904, a son of Warren S. and Erie (Brisbin) Beard.
He is survived by these children: David W. Beard, Louisville, Ky.; Ruth B. Shear, Mt. Sterling, Ky.; John "Jack" Beard, Curwensville; Arthur C. Beard, Stockton, Calif.; Richard L. Beard, Boston, Mass.; George L. Beard, Clearfield; and Daniel L. Beard, Bridgeville.
Also surviving are 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother, James B. Beard, Lantana, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cora E. (George) Beard on Dec. 1, 1985; one brother, Arden beard, and one sister, Edith Belton.
The family suggests that contributions be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, South Second and Walnut streets, Clearfield, 16830; the Shaw Public Library Building Fund, 6 South Front St., Clearfield, 16830; Curwensville Public Library Building Fund, 474 State St. Curwensville, 16833 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
