William Walker Staton, 77 of Lake Lure, died Monday, September 18, 2006 at Rutherford Community Hospital. A native of Henderson County, he was a son of the late Robert B. Staton and Blanche Henderson Staton, and husband of Dorothy Wilkie Staton who died in 1989.

In addition, he is preceded in death by a son Donald R Staton; two brothers Bob and Herbert Staton; and one sister Arlene Staton.

As a young man he echoed the engineering spirit. Conducting experiments with early electricity to building houses, no task would hinder his abilities. As a veteran of the Korean War he served under the ideals of democracy and freedom. While in the Navy he was an aircrew member aboard the P-2 Neptune aircraft during the Cold War. After retirement of 22 years in the Navy, he enjoyed being with his family and pursuing his passions of gardening, travel, and genealogy.

Surviving are four children Michael W Staton and wife Marilyn, Ronald R. Staton, Pamela S Skipper and husband William and Steve A Staton, all of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Anthony Staton of Virginia, Benjamin Staton of Anchorage, Alaska, Tammie S Sullivan and husband Drew of Hendersonville, Tonya S. Malley and husband Randy, of Lake Lure, Christopher L Staton and wife Jennifer, of Hendersonville, Travis W Staton of Atlanta, GA and Scott Staton, and Danny Staton, both of Hendersonville; great-grandchildren Bailey, Lawson, Landon, Finley, Maggie, and one expected; one sister Mary Louise Jones of Hendersonville; one brother Morris M. Staton of Hendersonville.
